Disney Honeymoon Day 3
Happy Saturday Dreamers
Thanks for stopping by for another day in my Disney Honeymoon Series. Today we're tackling Magic Kingdom and a nice surprise for my birthday. This was probably my most favoritest day of our whole honeymoon!
So we went to Magic Kingdom on Halloween, which is a combination of two of my favorite things. Disney and Halloween! We started our day with yummy omelets from breakfast before we walked over to the Polynesian Resort to catch the Monorail. We took the monorail over to Magic Kingdom (which was awesome!)
We started with Adventureland, jumping on the Jungle Cruise. The lady driving the boat was full of terribly corny jokes, which was perfect.
We were told that the Pirates ride was closet, but it turned out that it was actually open. The line was super long, so we didn't get to ride on it. Instead we headed over to the Frontier Trading Post in Fronteirland. We were talking with a worker there about the exclusive Halloween pins that were only available at the Halloween Party later in the day. Lee sent us on a fun adventure "trying to find the pins" that might not be available until later. In reality he was trying to get us last minute tickets to Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party as a early birthday surprise (my birthday was the next day). I was wondering if that was he was doing, but I wasn't sure and I didn't think it was possible. While he was off trying to get the tickets I was at the Emporium on Main Street trying to get the interchangeable Mickey ears (the ones with Malificent).
I was super stoked that we got last minute tickets to the Party. I really wanted to take Lee to see the awesomeness but I thought we had missed our chance. Best birthday present.
We went to lunch at Cosmic Ray's Starlight Cafe in Tomorrowland. This place is cool because they have an animatronic Ray playing the piano. After that we got to see Merida at the Fairytale Garden,
We also checked out Gaston's Tavern in Fantasyland. We hopped on Under The Sea- Journey at the Little Mermaid. It was a nice break from walking because my legs were starting to hurt. Afterwards we got to see the Mainstream Philharmonic in front of the castle before we decided to get a wheelchair as a precaution, since we were going to be out much later then we originally planned.
So here's a cool story. My father-in-law met this nice lady named Diane during a filming of a parade in Chesapeake, Virginia, who worked at Walt Disney World. He had mentioned that we were going to Disney for our honeymoon and she told him to give us her information and she would try to hook us up with something cool. Man, she did not disappoint!
While waiting to meet her during the Move It! Shake It! Dance & Play It! Street Parade, we went and met Tinkerbell before getting the wheelchair. We also road around the whole part in the Disney World Railroad to kill some time, which was also a nice break from walking.
So once we met Diane, she handed us a fast pass for the Peter Pan ride, as well as a pass for Magic Words with Mickey (this is the Mickey Mouse that talks!) She also told us to pick a character in the Move It! parade and we could get a picture with them, so we chose Nick from Zootopia! It was just super sweet of her to do all of this for us and we were incredibly grateful. She did it for us because it was our honeymoon and she knew Lee's father!
It was cool to see the talking Mickey! He was very sweet and it was awesome to cheat and pass the line. I've never gotten to meet Mickey Mouse in all my years of visiting Disney (I grew up in Tampa, FL so we went to Disney a LOT- especially for chorus).
Earlier in the day we had gotten Fast Passes for the Haunted Mansion, which is one of my favorite rides in this particular park. However, the ride was closed as soon as we got to the door, which was disheartening. We decided to go back after dinner and see if it was open, and we were excited that it was finally open. I am so glad that we had the wheelchair though, because it was kind of a long wait. It's always cool how they do the talking statues and the ghosts.
After that we got to see the Hocus Pocus Villian Spooktacular at the base of the Cinderella Castle. This was Lee's favorite part of the Not So Spooky Halloween Party (his words). One of the bonuses of having my wheelchair was also that we got RIGHT up front! This was my second year seeing it but Lee hadn't ever seen it before. I didn't take as many photos this year, I think I recorded a video but I can't find the footage. I think they picked the perfect cast members to play the Sanderson Sisters and I always love seeing Hades (Hercules) and Oogie Boogie (Nightmare Before Christmas).
We didn't get to see Jack and Sally this trip, which was kind of a bummer, but their line starts building before they even come out! Last year, Ashes and I waited like an hour and a half to see them, so Lee and I decided we wanted to do other things instead. Maybe we'll see them next time we go for Halloween. They only come out during the Halloween Party at Disney World and they are SOOOO popular.
We waited around a little bit before finding out seats for the "Boo To You" Halloween parade that night. It was super cool because when the Haunted Mansion cast passed by us Lee thought he saw someone familiar. It turns out that a friend of his from High School was in the Haunted Mansion section and even recognized Lee! It was so awesome and we were gonna meet up with him later (Ms. Dianne put us in touch with him since Lee had lost his number over the years). He was going to invite us to practice but it was super late and super cold.
Sadly we didn't even stay to see the Happy Hallowishes Fireworks because we were so exhausted, but since we were staying at Shades of Green, we could actually see the fireworks from our hotel room window! Not as cool as seeing it from the park, but I'm okay with that because I still don't really like the sound of fireworks, even five years later. We hopped back on the Monorail to the Polynesian Resort and hobbled our way back to our hotel (my hip was killing me from all the walking and then the uncomfortable wheelchair. Next time, I need to bring a pillow or something!
